Palanpur Community Museum

Designing and curation of an interpretive City Museum and children's interactive activity space for the Vidyamandir Trust at Palanpur, Gujarat. The project is founded on a strong branding and communication strategy. It is forseen as a unique Museum in India that will adopt modern interpretive media to narrate the story of the city of Palanpur, from its earliest available history to the present

The Museum will be housed in a 100-year-old bungalow built during the era of Nawab Taley Mohammad Khan. The bungalow, known as Taley Bagh, has been restorated by us effectively maximising the adaptive reuse of the spaces without interfering with its original architecture

The Museum is mainly addressed at school children and aims to be in sync with the 6th, 7th, 8th standard social studies curricula of the Gujarat board

A heritage management plan and conservation policy has been presented. In this plan a heritage trail has been suggested (see image of map) that will link the heritage sites of Palanpur. Since these sites are in extremely poor condition and are falling apart a conservation policy has also been proposed, with listing of Palanpur’s heritage

The project also included the provision of an organisational structure, and management and marketing policies. The spaces were designed in keeping with this proposal

The accompanying images demonstrate the condition of the building when it was handed to us and the restoration process guided by us. Some images depict the plans and proposals given by us
